"Break" an original fictional story for "fox tales"

The story (below) is based on the image @vermillionfox drew (below, used with permission for the purposes of this contest).

She looked at her reflection in the little silver mirror that stood on the dressing table. The mirror had been her mothers. She had memories of playing with it as a child. It was the only possession he had allowed her to keep. From her life, before him. She could see the hands, the demons of her relationship, clearly in the reflection. She wondered if others saw them too. When she had done what needed to be done, would she be celebrated? Or vilified? One hand cold and thin, but powerful - so very powerful! - was clamped tightly over her mouth. She could never speak of her torment. It was their little secret, he said. Another hand covered an eye, the other an ear. She could see, she could hear. But only what he wanted her to see and hear. What he allowed her to see and hear. She took a deep breath. It was time to break the cycle. To break out of her prison. To break free of her demons. It was time to fight back.
