@brimax wrote an interesting post yesterday about how anyone can earn Steem just by commenting as he and many others are voting up comments on their posts and their votes are worth several cents. I also vote up most of the responses I get. Even though I'm not using 100% votes that will gain each comment a good few cents. I've had dollars for some of my own comments that did particularly well.
I do actually read all the comments and if I see one that looks like it was just pasted in then it won't get a vote. I value the conversations here and those who contribute deserve something. What I won't do is follow back every commenter, so please don't ask. I need to keep my feed manageable, so I may even follow less people as things go on.
So you can make more here than on any of the cryptocurrency faucets with just a little effort. It may benefit you even more in the long term as you may gain followers by being interesting.
I do wonder how this can scale. There's only so much Steem to go around and people will try to game the system. I'm not sure we will run out of rewards any time soon as the Steem price has been rising, so a smaller share of the pot will still be worth something. It hasn't happened yet, but we could see a flood of spam comments as many more people join up. They may end up getting flagged to oblivion, but I'd rather that they learn the real ways to succeed here. We saw this on Tsu when thousands joined from poorer countries and desperately tried to gain followers. A flood of pointless comments will make it hard to find the real ones.
Anyway, I just want to say that I do value good comments on my posts and will continue to vote them up. I may have to reduce the percentage if it drains my voting power too much, but you should still get something. I will also reply when I have the time. We shall see how it goes.
