# Data: The new currency

The increasing internet use, information, and data generation presents a serious case for effective data management and storage. Information should not just be generated but should also be retrieved and localized easily. With the projected report of over 20 billion devices in a foreseeable future, a case for who manages and stores best should be on everyone’s lips.

In 2015, for instance, hackers obtained personal details, Social Security numbers, fingerprints, employment history, and financial information for about 20 million individuals who had been subject to a background check by the US government. Encryption methods can never be 100 percent safe, but blockchain technology can make similar breaches a great deal more difficult to achieve. While blockchain has been rumored as having great potentials for effective data management, several of its different types have not lived up to this standard. # Encryption and validation Encryption simply refers to the conversion of information into a secret code that hides the information's true meaning. The science of encrypting and decrypting information is called cryptography and every great blockchain technology is built using this feature. If any alteration is made on the distributed ledger, then the information is clearly rendered useless. With this encryption feature, you can easily verify that data you backed up and stored in the cloud with third-party vendors has gone completely unchanged even weeks, months, or years later.
