--- Just in these days, I have a memory that literally conditioned my life. I was just over twenty-two years old and I had decided to get my motorcycle driving license. I was definitely not a fan of two wheels, unlike the four wheels that capture my soul. Let's say that I was intrigued by trying, to understand what I could try riding a motorcycle. Apart from the total incompetence in coordinating the movements of the body and arms, the sensations were not the most encouraging. I felt something strange inside, perhaps a simple observation of not being able to master it. --- --- I took the license, without any great difficulty, and started going around with my beginner's bike to try to gain confidence ... but I was afraid; not of myself because I did not go beyond my ability, the fear was aimed at those who do not know what it means to see a motorcycle arrive, the perception changes, a bike gets you in less time than a car ... I realized that this created problems, big problems and I can honestly say that never having been attracted by the two wheels was a right feeling according to my way of being. All this gave me even more confirmation of not taking this path when a terrible event occurred that marked my life heavily. I still remember how it happened a few days ago: it was a Friday, it was late, around two o'clock when I got home. I used to not lie down immediately, but to write on my sheets, in case something happened to be put in my written reflections. Just in those moments I felt, in the silence of the night, a bike that ran, accelerated, ran a long straight, at full speed and did it over and over again, stopping and coming back along the same road. The noise was unmistakable, a twin that could only be a Ducati, a big engine, so I thought it could be a 996 or something similar. The perception was that it went and touched the 150 miles per hour because for too many seconds you could hear the noise at full speed. I shook my head because I felt that this was not normal, what could that person have in his head to do that? Perhaps he played with death? After minutes of deafening noise (and as the crow flies were just over half a mile) the silence of the night came back with the noise I still felt in my head. I was upset, really, but I fell asleep. The next day, awareness, stomach punch, I no longer felt my legs. They gave me the news. That bike, the same bike I had felt for at least twenty minutes had been destroyed, including the two lives on it. At that age, just over twenty years, life is invincible, there are no negative thoughts about it, everything seems endless and without risks and accepting these things becomes even more difficult, because impossible, but anything can happen always and anyway. Those two broken lives, one of 22 and another of 23 were those of two of my friends, dear friends, with whom I had grown up and shared many experiences. From that day on, the bike was canceled from my mind; it would no longer have been part of my life, never again.

--- Proprio in questi giorni, ho un ricordo che mi ha letteralmente condizionato la vita. Avevo poco più di ventidue anni e avevo deciso di fare la patente di guida per la moto. Non ero sicuramente un appassionato delle due ruote, a differenza delle quattro ruote che mi catturano l'anima. Diciamo che ero incuriosito dal provarci, dal capire cosa avessi potuto provare in sella ad una moto. A parte la totale incompetenza nel coordinare i movimenti del corpo e delle braccia, le sensazioni non erano le più incoraggianti. Sentivo qualcosa di strano dentro, forse una semplice constatazione del fatto di non essere in grado di padroneggiarla. Presi la patente, senza comunque enormi difficoltà, e cominciai ad andare in giro con la mia moto da principiante per cercare di prendere confidenza...ma avevo paura; non di me stesso perché non andavo oltre le mie capacità, la paura era rivolta a chi non sa cosa vuol dire vedersi arrivare una moto, la percezione cambia, una moto ti arriva addosso in meno tempo di un auto... Mi accorgevo che questo mi creava problemi, grossi problemi e sinceramente posso affermare che il non essere mai stato attratto dalle due ruote era una sensazione giusta secondo il mio modo di essere. Tutto ciò mi diede ancora più conferma di non intraprendere questa strada quando accadde un evento terribile che segnò in maniera pesante la mia vita. Ricordo ancora come fosse accaduto qualche giorno fa: era un venerdì, era tardi, circa le due di notte quando rincasai. Avevo l'abitudine di non coricarmi subito, ma di scrivere sui miei fogli, nel caso fosse accaduto qualcosa da mettere nelle mie riflessioni scritte. Proprio in quegli istanti sentivo, nel silenzio della notte, una moto che correva, accelerava, percorreva un lunghissimo rettilineo, alla massima velocità e lo faceva più e più volte, fermandosi e tornando indietro ripercorrendo la stessa strada. Il rumore era inconfondibile, un bicilindrico che non poteva che essere di una Ducati, un motore grosso, quindi pensavo potesse essere una 996 o qualcosa di simile. La percezione era che andasse e sfiorasse le 150 miglia orarie perché per troppi secondi si sentiva il rumore a pieni regimi. Scuotevo la testa perché sentivo che non era normale una cosa del genere, cosa poteva avere nella testa quella persona per fare così? Forse giocava con la morte? Dopo minuti di rumore assordante ( e in linea d'aria non era che poco più di mezzo miglio ) il silenzio della notte tornò con quel rumore che ancora sentivo nella mia testa. Ero turbato, veramente, ma mi addormentai. Il giorno dopo, la consapevolezza, il pugno allo stomaco, non sentivo più le gambe. Mi diedero la notizia. Quella moto, quella stessa moto che avevo sentito per almeno venti minuti era andata distrutta, comprese le due vite che vi erano sopra. A quell'età, a poco più di vent'anni, la vita è invincibile, non esistono pensieri negativi a riguardo, tutto sembra senza fine e senza rischi e accettare queste cose diventa ancora più difficile, perché impossibili, ma tutto può succedere sempre e comunque. Quelle due vite spezzate, una di 22 e un'altra di 23 erano quelle di due miei amici, cari amici, con i quali ero cresciuto e condiviso molte esperienze. Da quel giorno, la moto venne cancellata dalla mia mente; non sarebbe più stata parte della mia vita, mai più.
